Free Money for College

This type of free money, which is sometimes based on academic merit, talent, a particular area of study, and/or financial need can make a real difference in helping you manage your education expenses.

Money for Michigan Students 

The Michigan Achievement Scholarship provides money for college and career training through the following programs. 

Community College Guarantee: Tuition-free skills certificate or associate degree regardless of family income! 

 Public or Private University: Up to $27,500 to earn a bachelor’s degree - that’s $5,500 per year for up to five years.

 Career Training: Up to $4,000 to earn a skills certificate at a career training program.

The Michigan Student Aid Student Scholarships and Grants (MiSSG) website provides online access to scholarship and grant applications, including the following:

Michigan Tuition Incentive Program (TIP)    

Fostering Futures Scholarship 

Police Officer’s and Fire Fighter’s Survivor Tuition Grant 

To use the MiSSG site, students must create an account and will need their social security number and have either a current-year Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file or a Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) record. Award information and program eligibility are sent to the first college listed on your FAFSA.

Money for Genesee County Students 

In addition to exploring the opportunities listed below, be sure to also check with your high school about local scholarship opportunities!

The Genesee Opportunity (GO) stipend provides Genesee County high school graduates with money for college, career training, or certification licensing fees. It is not based on income or grades and is funded through a millage approved by Genesee County voters.

The Flint Promise is for graduates of high schools located in the City of Flint. It allows eligible students to attend participating colleges for little to no cost. Visit the website for eligibility requirements and to access the application.

The Community Foundation of Greater Flint Scholarship Program provides information and links to local scholarships, including some specific to your school district.
